This trip was all about spontaneity. On a Tuesday, the night before my final day working at Picnic People, I went down to my neighborhood watering hole to have a few drinks. There I ran into an acquaintance that said she was going to Germany the next day. I asked how much a round trip ticket would cost and she said about $650. With that information and few more drinks, I stumbled home, went online, and confirmed the price she quoted me. Within an hour, I had purchased tickets and made hostel reservations to leave the following Sunday for 11 days.

It was a wonderful trip full of magic. This was evident by the very first group of people that I met in Munich who turned out to be the road crew for David Copperfield. They gave me a free third row center seat for an evening performance.

I spent my days taking several tours of Munich as I learned about its rich culture and unfortunate role in WWII history. The evenings were spent mostly enjoying the German food and beer, as you can see by the pictures.

After I had been in Munich for nearly a week, I met a young lady who advised me that I really should go see another city with my time. So I went down to the train station and flipped a coin to determine which city I would visit next. The following morning I was off to Prague.

Munich

Dachau
I spent an afternoon at Dachau, a WWII Jewish concentration camp. Pictures do not tell the story.

Prague
I literally stood at the train station and flipped a coin to choose which city I would visit next. The options were West Berlin and Prague. The coin came up in favor of Prague.
